Since the fall of 2018, The Connecticut River Collaborative Planning Committee has been discussing a range of options for consolidating ENSU and SAU 7 into a single interstate school district. Two possible options are presented here, but other options are also still under consideration. It is our hope to have a final recommendation ready by spring, 2021, based on discussions with our financial consultants, the Education Commissioners of Vermont and New Hampshire, and feedback from our six communities.
The first merger we would like to model involves the creation of an interstate district to replace ENSU and SAU 7 that would serve Canaan on the Vermont side of the river, and Clarksville, Stewartstown, Colebrook and Columbia on the New Hampshire side of the river. Pittsburg would participate at the high school level but wishes to keep their current PK-8 structure as a separate entity. This proposal would create a regional high school and CTE center in Canaan and a regional middle school in Colebrook while leaving elementary structures largely intact.
Students would be distributed into schools as follows:
Grades 9-12 students from all five towns
Career and Technical Education Center for all towns
PreK-5 students from Colebrook and Columbia
Grades 6-8 students from Colebrook, Clarksville, Canaan and Stewartstown
PreK-5 students from Canaan, Stewartstown and Clarksville
PreK-8 students from Pittsburg
